
Richard Russell, an ASCAP Plus winner, has had his music performed internationally and at prominent venues in New York. Highlights include a September 11, 2002 memorial performance of his flute solo Remembrances at Merkin Concert Hall, and a performance of Design for Lightning by trombonist Haim Avitsur in Israel. As well, his compositions have been performed in Bulgaria, Japan, CAMI Hall, the Ethical Culture Society, and numerous times at Mannes College of Music.
Mr. Russell's music is published by Design for Lightning Music. He publishes a podcast, Creativity and Composition, available at iTunes. In addition, he publishes the online blog version of Creativity and Composition. These efforts help to maintain an online community that explores the creative process.
He began writing songs at an early age, beginning formal piano and composition study at 13. He received his BA in Music Composition from Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois, graduating magna cum laude. He is currently pursuing his Masters at SUNY Empire State.
Mr. Russell has been active in the New York Composers Circlefor several years, having served on its Steering Committee and performed the role of Managing Director. Currently, he acts as the NYCC webmaster and In the Loop newsletter editor.
